Tarot Reading: The Complete Guide

If you’ve ever typed “tarot reading near me” or “online tarot reading” into a search bar at 1am, half-convinced you’re being ridiculous — you’re not, and this guide is for you. Everything you actually want to know: what a reading is, how a session works, what it can (and can’t) tell you, what it costs, and how to tell a credible reader from someone winging it.

What Is a Tarot Reading?

A tarot reading traditionally uses the Rider-Waite-Smith deck to provide energy-based guidance, using the reader’s intuition. It offers insight into your energy and the energies surrounding your situation — reflecting the patterns, blocks and possibilities already present in your life, so you can meet what’s ahead with intention and clarity, instead of anxiety.

It doesn’t say your future is etched in stone with nothing you can do to change it — you have free will. No deck of cards controls your destiny. It merely guides you to choose the path you’re aligned with.

What the cards do show you is the most likely outcome based on your current energy and the energies around you. And just as importantly, they help you change that outcome too — offering guidance on what to do next if you don’t like where your current path is heading, since you always keep your free will.

The deck itself is made up of two kinds of cards: the Major Arcana, which tend to point to bigger life lessons, and the Minor Arcana, which are more situational and more prone to change.

Tarot is not fortune-telling, black magic, or a ritual to fear. It’s a mirror. Nothing more dramatic than that.

Who Is Tarot For?

Honestly? Anyone who’s confused, curious, wanting to connect with themselves, or standing at a crossroads — a career shift, a relationship decision, a season of feeling stuck on repeat.

It’s also for more specific moments: when you want a clearer read on where a situation is heading, or insight into what someone else might be thinking or holding back — the parts that usually stay hidden from view.

Career guidance, relationship and love questions, general life direction, self-work — it’s all fair game, and it’s for skeptics and believers alike. Plenty of first-time clients come in unsure what to expect and leave surprised by how accurate and grounding it actually was.

How Does a Tarot Reading Session Work?

With me, a Tarot Reading session runs about 1 hour and uses the traditional deck to reflect on specific questions you bring in — other readers may structure theirs differently. Come prepared with 7–10 real questions — the more specific, the more useful the reading.

For something deeper, a Spiritual Guidance session (1.5 hours) uses a spiritual oracle deck to connect with your energy field, your higher self and spirit guides. Before the session begins, I do a 30-minute meditation to connect with your energy — part of why it’s a deeper session, covering fewer questions (around 4) in far more depth. The answers that surface tend to go beyond the original question too, often helping you connect more with your soul — sometimes with your ancestors.

Confidentiality is complete, every time. Cards are cleansed before and after each reading, so what comes up carries only your own energy — and stays between you, me, and the cards. Not your business, not my next client’s, not anyone’s.

Online Tarot Reading vs. In-Person

Online tarot reading is available to clients across the United States, Canada, the UAE, India and beyond — sessions run over Google Meet, so distance and time zones are never a barrier. Pricing shows up in your local currency: USD for the US (and UAE), CAD for Canada, INR for India — once you’re ready to book, I’ll send you a secure link to pay online.

If you’re in Toronto, in-person sessions are also available whenever I’m in the city — one of the two places I call home, alongside Mumbai, where in-person sessions run too.

Neither format changes the depth of the reading. What matters more is having actual privacy during your session, so the space holds only your energy.

Will a Tarot Reader Tell Me Exactly What’s Going to Happen?

No reader — however good — is God. A responsible one won’t claim to hand you a fixed, guaranteed outcome, and it’s worth being wary of anyone who does. What a good reading can do is show you what’s most likely to happen, based on the energy you’re carrying and the energies around your situation.

Tarot is guidance, not fate. You always have free will to change direction, shift your plan, or choose differently. The cards show you the pattern that’s forming; what you do with it is entirely up to you.

How Much Does a Tarot Reading Cost?

Pricing varies by session type and region. As a general guide:

  • Tarot Reading (1 hour) — a single, focused session for specific questions
  • Spiritual Guidance (1.5 hours) — a deeper, slower session with meditation prep
  • Live with Light — a personalised 5-session program for those moving through a longer chapter

Exact current rates for each are listed on the Sessions & Events page.

How to Choose the Right Tarot Reader

Not every reader approaches this the same way, and the difference matters more than people think. Look for someone who:

  • Reads for clarity, not fear — the goal is to leave you steadier and clearer, not spiralling
  • Is upfront that tarot reflects patterns and probabilities, not a locked-in future
  • Treats your session as fully confidential — and doesn’t turn it into gossip afterward
  • Has real training and, more importantly, actual repeat clients — that matters more than a certificate on a wall
  • Welcomes skeptics, as long as you show up with an open mind rather than a pre-set bias

If a reader tells you there’s a curse behind your problems, or that something terrible is guaranteed unless you book (and pay) again immediately — that’s a red flag, not a reading. To be fair, sometimes heavier energy really is there. It just shouldn’t cost you the price of gold to clear it.
